But for Sarah Gold, it's just the tip of the ice berg. Sarah is also the founder of NYC Peach, a luxury design shop that creates beautiful objects d'art out of everyday items. Her crystal-studded cell phone cases and Mason Pearson brushes have become the envy of celebrities and fashionistas from cost to coast. She was even commissioned to create special sparkly Altoid mint tins for the 2004 Oscar nominees. Gold's meteoric success is even more amazing when you learn that it all began by a chance meeting. "A friend of mine was carrying a cell phone I had decorated for her when she walked past the set of a Sex and the City shoot on the streets of New York," Gold said. "Sarah Jessica Parker spotted it and asked my friend where she got it." Shortly thereafter, Parker's ultra-chic character Carrie Bradshaw had her very own crystal cell phone case, which she proudly displayed on the show. From that moment on, Sarah Gold has been one busy woman. She launched her company, NYC Peach, and hired friends to help her keep up with the demand for her original crystal designs. Gold's decision to add Mason Pearson hairbrushes to the mix came from a fond childhood memory. "As I child, I adored my mother's vanity set that included a comb, brush and mirror. I always felt like a princess using them. The problem was, the brush was so bad! I wanted to take a good brush and really make it sparkle. As a hairdresser, I recognized the quality of Mason Pearson brushes. They're the best," Gold said. In addition to using fine Mason Pearson brushes, Gold uses only high-quality Swarovski crystals to create her designs. "My products are for the girl who appreciates quality," Gold said, "and I only work with the best materials." As you would imagine, Gold's Swarovski-studded brushes aren't cheap. Each one takes between two to six hours to create and they run from $195 for a pocket-size brush to $395 for the large "Popular" style. Due to popular demand, NYC Peach is now online, and easily accessible for anyone who wants to add a little luxury to their lives. And, even though there's a waiting line for Gold's designs, every order is created on a first-come-first-served basis. "I fill orders on an individual basis, as they come in," Gold said. "Everybody waits in line, even celebrities. I don't put someone's order on hold just because a celebrity wants hers a.s.a.p." Expect some new items from NYC Peach in the near future.
